Popular ‘Top Docs’ Issue Features Gwinnett’s Own

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., (June 30, 2011) – A number of Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) physicians, representing a range of specialties, were recently honored by Atlanta Magazine, as part of the ‘Top Docs’ yearly issue. Physicians cast the nominations of their colleagues and considered education, professional experience and excellence in patient care. The list was compiled by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a New York-based healthcare research and information company.

Those GMC-based physicians honored and specialties are:
 Richard Abrohams, MD, Internal Medicine
Julius O. Ajayi, MD, Internal Medicine
 Roosevelt Allen, Jr., MD, Urology
David B. Arkin, MD, Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism
 Dinesh Chatoth, MD, Nephrology
 Louis Heller, MD, Interventional Cardiology
 James Hipkens, MD, Internal Medicine
 Theresa A. Lawrence, MD, Rheumatology
Peter Mann, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology
Phillip H. Nakano, MD, Plastic Surgery
Joseph F. Pohl, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology
Manfred A. Sandler, MD, Cardiovascular Disease
 Yvonne Satterwhite, MD, Orthopaedic Surgery
 Neill Videlefsky, MD, Pediatric Cardiology
 Julie Zweig, MD, Otolaryngology

"The recognition by Atlanta Magazine of our exceptional physicians is further validation that we are able to offer superior medical treatment and the highest quality patient care to the metro Atlanta community,” said President and CEO Philip Wolfe, Gwinnett Medical Center. “Through the record-breaking growth we’ve experienced at GMC, our partner physicians have remained true to their core principles based on this distinction.”

Founded by a former medical college board chair and president, Castle Connolly’s physician-led team of researchers used mail and telephone surveys as well as electronic ballots. All licensed physicians in DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb and Clayton counties were invited to participate in online voting through atlantamagazine.com. This year, 318 Atlanta-based physicians were recognized, up from about 60 in last year’s issue. Atlanta Magazine saw numbers increase this year with the addition of online voting.

The July issue of Atlanta Magazine will be available on newsstands Friday, July 1.
