GMC Board Members Honored

Lawrenceville, Ga (February 4, 2010) – The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce will honor two of Gwinnett Medical Center’s board members at the annual dinner on February 5 - Manfred Sandler, MD, and Philip Wolfe, president and CEO of GMC. Wolfe will be honored with the Public Service award, and Dr. Sandler will be honored with the Citizen of the Year award.

The awards are primarily based on services and benefits rendered to people, objectives and the community as a whole, over and beyond excellence in one’s own profession, business, service or enterprise over a period of two or more years. The candidate must be stable, well-known and respected in his or her community. The most important consideration is what the individual has done to make our community a better place and what he or she has done to aid us all in living and working together.

Dr. Sandler was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and lives in Gwinnett with his wife, Fiona, and their two sons. He is currently a partner at Cardiovascular Group P.C. Since 1994, he has served in many leadership roles within the community. He is currently serving as vice-chairman of the GMC Board and is on the Executive Board of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. In 2008, he became the chairman of the GMC Foundation Board. Under Dr. Sandler’s guidance, the Physician Partner’s was created which encourages philanthropic participation from GMC physicians. Since the induction of the program, more than 130 doctors have joined and donated to the Foundation. As physician champion, Dr. Sandler has played an instrumental role in GMC’s efforts to attain open heart services in Gwinnett.

Phil Wolfe began his career in healthcare in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps. Wolfe joined GMC in 2006 with 30 years of experience as a healthcare executive. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Hospital Association. Wolfe also serves on the GMC Foundation Board, Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Board and the Gwinnett Technical College Board among others. He has been a member of the Rotary Club International since 1986. Wolfe is a native of Ohio, and is married to Mary Jane Wolfe. He is a licensed general aviation pilot and enjoys golf. Wolfe was also recently honored with Gwinnett Magazine’s 2009 Man of the Year award.
