The St. Regis Atlanta celebrates 75th Anniversary of beloved cocktail
Elegant Buckhead Hotel Offers $0.99 Bloody Mary’s to Celebrate Historic Anniversary

Atlanta, GA (September 21, 2009) – The St. Regis Atlanta, the city’s most elegant “in-town resort,” is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Bloody Mary this fall. Invented 75 years ago at the legendary St. Regis New York, the Bloody Mary, or Red Snapper as it was called for the hotel’s chic clientele, has been imitated and adapted throughout the years, but the original recipe still stands as one of the most beloved cocktails ever created. On October 5, 2009, The St. Regis Atlanta will pay homage to this iconic cocktail by offering their signature West Paces Mary, the Atlanta interpretation of the classic recipe, as well as the original Red Snapper at the 1934 price of just $0.99.

In 1934, bartender Fernand Petiot introduced the Red Snapper at The St. Regis New York’s King Cole Bar. The famed cocktail was created when Serge Oblensky, a well known man about town, asked Petiot to make a vodka cocktail he had in Paris. The formula was spiced up with salt, pepper, lemon and Worcestershire and would go on to become the signature cocktail for St. Regis hotels and resorts worldwide. Each hotel has interpreted the original classic to speak to the specific destination – from The Capital Mary in Washington, D.C. to The Great Wall Bloody Mary in Beijing, St. Regis continues the legacy of this beloved cocktail with creative concoctions that speak to the locale. The delectable West Paces Mary served in Atlanta maintains the integrity of the original while adding spices and a Southern twist – a festive garnish of Tomolives, or pickled green tomatoes.

On Monday, October 5, The Bar at The St. Regis Atlanta invites guests to join the celebration by offering the West Paces Mary and the original Red Snapper at the 1934 price of $0.99. Revelers may stop in throughout the day to enjoy one of the country’s most beloved cocktails under the glow of Claude Perreault’s Phoenix Rising mural above the elegant bar. The St. Regis Bar has quickly become Atlanta’s most desirable destination for memorable celebrations and intimate gatherings. The St. Regis Atlanta, ideally located at 88 West Paces Ferry Road in the heart of Buckhead, offers bespoke guest experiences and unrivalled accommodations to the world’s most discerning travelers.
