Historic Westville Announces Fourth of July Celebration of Independence 

LUMPKIN (June 28, 2009, marks Westville's annual Celebration of Independence. Come enjoy cold watermelon, barbeque, and friendly competition. Visitors are invited to compete in the sack races, the three-legged races, watermelon eating contest and the watermelon seed spitting contest. The more adventurous may try to climb the greased pole to snag the cash at the top. Every hour on the hour we'll "blow the anvil" sky high to mark our nation's birthday.

Wildwood will perform blue grass for our guests, and if you're hungry or thirsty, the Kiser House restaurant will be open with its tasty barbeque and cool lemonade.

Watermelon Eating Contest

Gates open at 10:00 am. Tour the 1850s historic village, ride the mule wagon, enjoy the crafts demonstrations, and visit the museum store for unique gifts that can only be found at Historic Westville or a great souvenir of your visit. Sack Races

Westville is located in Lumpkin, just 35 miles south of Columbus, GA off US 27. Hours of operation are 10 AM to 5 PM Thursday- Saturday and 1-5pm Sunday. Admission charge: Adults $10, Seniors, Military & College (w/ID) $8 and Children (K-12th Grade) $5.
