44th Annual Georgia Junior Championship

Format and Schedule
The Georgia Junior Championship takes place Monday, June 22 through Wednesday, June 24. The event is 54 holes of stroke play over three days with the 144-player field being cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes.
Eligibility
Entries were open to male amateur golfers between the ages of 14 and 17 who are Georgia residents and GSGA members or dependents of GSGA members. A competitor must be at least 14 years old and not be 18 as of June 22.
Event History
This year marks the 44th playing of the Georgia Junior Championship with 144 players competing for the overall title. The top eight finishers earn spots on the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match team. The winner also receives an exemption into the 2009 Georgia Amateur Championship, which takes place at Country Club of Columbus, July 9-12.
Host Club: Sea Island Golf Club – Retreat Course
Sea Island Golf Club’s Retreat Course was originally known as St. Simons Island Club. In 2000, the club was officially brought under the direction and operation of Sea Island Company. The original layout designed by Joe Lee was completely redesigned by Davis Love III and opened with a new clubhouse in 2001.
The club has hosted five GSGA championships. The first four, which date back to the St. Simons Island Club days, include the 1985 Georgia-Florida Women’s Team Matches and the 1992, 1993 and 1997 Senior Four-Ball Championships. In 2008, The Retreat Course played host to the Georgia-South Carolina Girls’ Junior Challenge Match.
The director of golf is Brannen Veal and the head professional is Chrissy Felton. The director of maintenance is Berry Collett.
Directions to the Retreat Course: I-75 S. to I-16 E. to I-95 S. Take Exit 38/Hwy. 25 Spur/Golden Isles Parkway to Hwy. 17 S. Turn left on Torras Causeway, turn right at end of causeway on Kings Way. Go .5 mile to the entrance on the left.
