National Football League, Ivy Preparatory host Girls' Flag Football Camp
Event is part of NFL’s Girls Flag Football Leadership Program,
Atlanta Falcon linebacker Tony Gilbert to help coach
NORCROSS (April 24, 2009) – While millions of football fans will be tuned into the National Football League Draft on Saturday, several of them – including an Atlanta Falcon – will be at North Gwinnett Park instead, watching and helping a group of sixth grade girls learn how to play the game.
Fifty (50) students from Ivy Preparatory Academy – an all-girls charter middle school in Norcross – will take part in a flag football camp as part of the NFL’s Girls Flag Football Leadership Program, Saturday, April 25, noon to 4 p.m., at North Gwinnett Park (4488 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Norcross).
The girls will get expert instruction from Atlanta Falcon linebacker Tony Gilbert, former Georgia Force receiver Diallo Burks and personal trainers Chandler and Charles Teasley of Devine Training Concepts. Wendy’s is a participating sponsor.
The NFL is providing flag football equipment to Ivy Prep as part of the program, a national initiative designed to build confidence, character and leadership in the young ladies, while growing the sport of girls’ flag football – which is an officially sanctioned high school sport in the states of Alaska and Florida. In the fall, Ivy Prep will have a five-team intramural girls flag football league, according to Head of School Nina Gilbert.
