County allows voters to choose
the way they want to choose

This column is all about being pro-choice. First of all, how great it is to live in a country where we are free to choose out leaders! And in addition to that, we have choices regarding the way in which we choose them.

Traditionally Americans have always gone to the polls on Election Day. Having been a poll worker for seven years now, I must say I love Election Day, especially for the bigger elections when I get to chat with my neighbors as they sign in. The more voters who show up, the faster the time goes and the more fun it is. But big elections can be stressful. Sometimes voters stand in line for hours, overextending their lunch breaks or being late for work. And then there’s always someone who gets stuck in traffic and arrives at 7:01 PM and is upset that he or she cannot vote. And do we poll workers ever hear about it! But here’s the beauty of other choices. First, from tomorrow until October 31, you can vote between 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM at the Gwinnett County Elections and Voter Registration office at 455 Grayson Highway, Suite 200 in Lawrenceville (in the Town Center shopping center). From October 27-31, you can vote during those same hours at satellite locations in Snellville, Suwanee, Dacula and Norcross. (See complete addresses in box.)

If for any reason, these choices still don’t work for you, there’s another option: absentee ballot. Anybody can do it. You don’t need an excuse anymore. Sure, on the application, there are a dozen excuses you can check off, but all you have to do is go to the bottom of the list and check “No reason” and you’re good to go. Just make sure you mail you ballot in early enough so it reaches the election office by November 6. You can download a form at www.gwinnettcounty.com.

Of course, in order to vote, you must choose to register. This year’s registration deadline is October 6, so you still have plenty of time. You can register at the Elections and Voters Registration Office in Lawrenceville, any Gwinnett library, or you can download an application at the Web site above. .

I hope this information helps you choose the best way to help choose our next President. But to be honest, I hope not everyone chooses to vote early or absentee, because it’s going to be a long lonely day for me if none of y’all shows up on Election Day.
