Officials break ground on new Gwinnett
fire station

Lawrenceville, Ga., (May 8, 2008) – On Tuesday, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners held a groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 7, which will move from its present location on Duluth Highway (SR 120) to a new, expanded station at 3343 Bunten Road at its intersection with Old Peachtree Road in Duluth.

The new site is just over three acres and will feature three drive-through equipment bays and 49 parking spaces along with a kitchen, dayroom, dining room, fitness room, a bunk room with 14 cubicles, offices and a meeting room that will be available to the community.

“Fire Station 7 will be a huge improvement and it will serve the City of Duluth and area residents and businesses well for many years to come,” Chief Steve Rolader said.

Ward General Contractors will construct the $2.6 million dollar facility. The nearly 13,000 square-foot station is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2009.

“This new fire station is part of a vision for the future–because we’re putting the physical facilities in place today that we will need to become stronger and better in the future,” District 1 Commissioner Lorraine Green said.

Funds for the fire station construction are coming from the 2001 SPLOST program.
