Troops, both Girls Scout
and Military – need you help
LILBURN, GA (March 24, 2008) - During this year's sale of Girl Scout (GS) Cookies some of the GS troops in the Evergreen Service Unit (SU) collected donations to send cookies to our US troops in Iraq. Some collected flat donations from businesses, others requested donations during their booth sales. At the end of the cookie sale time (March 16th) had over 50 cases (12 boxes per case) ready to go to Iraq. Then they ran into a problem...security had become much tighter & they found they were without a way to get the cookies to the soldiers. Since postage to send the cookies would cost about as much as cookies and eat into the number of boxes that could be sent, SU Cookie Director, Ann Thomas, and other leaders within the SU worked to find a solution.
A solution was found when one leader was able to make a connection that could solve the problem. The cookies will now ship directly to Iraq with no postage having to be paid. Now they are getting the word out to other SUs in and out of their own
North West Georgia (NW GA) Council to collect any other donated cookies that need to be sent. Plus they have teamed up with Operation Sandbox, a non-profit organization that sends out individual care packages to our U.S. Troops.
Operation Sandbox will be giving the full cases of cookies they receive along with the full cases the Evergreen SU collects. In turn, the Evergreen SU will be giving their partial cases & individual boxes to Operation Sandbox for the care packages they send out.
They need people & businesses willing to donate money to buy any of the cookies that GS troops have "left over" from the sale so more cookies can be sent. If more money comes in then what is needed to buy the left over cookies, the remainder will go to Operation Sandbox so they can send more care packages.
