This quote, my friends, is hanging permanently in Liberty Hall in Walt Disney World in Orlando and I thought it was important enough to take a picture of it and show it to all of you. It is an ongoing reminder of what is most important in our society: The education of our children.
Walt Disney
had it right. Without education, without nurturing their imaginations, we have nothing.
Lest our legislators in Georgia forget this great charge and siphon even more funds away from education during this 2008 General Assembly, please remind them of Walt Disney’s quote as many times as you can. In a world where there are not enough public financial resources to go around for every need perceived, we cannot cheat education in any way. All future benefits and profits will spring from well-educated children, who grow up to be mature and productive adults.
Along this same vein, I want to encourage you to follow this link to view Professor
Randy Pausch’s
Last Lecture at Carnegie-Mellon University in the Journeys series. It is well worth the time it takes to hear this lecture, but let me advise you not to cut it short. Some of the best material and quotes are at the end. I actually took notes!

I particularly liked what Dr. Pausch said about brick walls and criticism. Hope you enjoy his lecture as much as I did…and the approximately six million other people who have viewed it, too. You will certainly learn something. I certainly did!

Well, folks, it’s JOHN McCAIN
for me. This is not something new; I am not a recent convert--it was John McCain for me the last time he ran for president, too! I do believe he will acquit himself very well and not
embarrass us, for Heaven sake. Senator McCain has certainly paid his dues in the service of this country, without question, and I do hope the voting electorate will recognize this. He is also a commanding leader. Does anybody doubt he means what he says?
Does ANYBODY believe Bill Clinton
won’t be the president if Hillrod should by some fluke win? Come on, those two Clintons are the biggest snake-oil act we’ve seen in many years, at least on the national scene. Their friends seem to get put in jail or worse, which makes one wonder about the caliber of people who tend to voluntarily associate with them. There is too much murk still surrounding the two of them for my taste. I am very interested in a woman running for this nation’s top job, but Hillrod is NOT the one for the job. No, no, no. She is no
Margaret Thatcher
or Indira Ghandi
, by a long yard!
As for Senator Barack Obama
, I fear a presidency of his would remind us of when
Jimmy Carter
went to Washington. I voted for Jimmy Carter back then, too. But, it really was country come to town and not much of note got accomplished while he was in the White House serving grits and sweet tea and eating peanuts. Senator Obama needs to season for about 20 years, and then he will be formidable.

At long last. “Classic” is returning to fashion. At least that is what
The New York Times says, and I am so glad! I shall be so happy to see the end of teenaged skank clothes passing for fashion for all the rest of us. The young fashion writers are afraid of “boring,” but what we’ll actually get are garments that look good on us and fit, if they do “Classic” right. If that is boring, bring it on! No more dresses that look like nightgowns. Let’s see if the offshore manufacturers can come up with some quality. Let’s see if pockets have lining. Let’s see if we even get pockets! I’d better say, “Let’s see what they do with ‘Classic’.”

Here in Georgia we have two more months of winter. I am busy reading seed catalogs and willing these winter months to slip by quickly. I am decidedly not a winter girl, but looking forward to getting out and digging in the garden now that I can walk. I got a total ankle replacement on October 5th at Duke University Medical Center. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Most people have only heard about hip and knee replacements, but they are doing ankles at Duke.
Dr. James DeOrio
has given me my life back!
Hope all is well and thanks for reading.
