Renowned neuroscientist, Dr. Gordon F. Sherman, in Atlanta to speak about the structural differences in the brains of children with reading difficulties
ATLANTA, GA (January 11, 2008) - The International Dyslexia Association of Georgia will host Dimensions of Dyslexia, Saturday, February 9, 2008. The annual conference is targeted for individuals, parents, educators, professionals and others interested in the field of dyslexia throughout the Southeast. Dr. Sherman's address will focus on "cerebrodiversity" - understanding that each individual's brain processes information differently. He will explain the implications of neuroscience research for teaching and learning, with an emphasis on dyslexia and other diverse learning styles.
Dr. Gordon Sherman, executive director of the Newgrange School in New Jersey, has over 25 years of research experience related to the development of the brain and the understanding of developmental dyslexia, and is the author of more than 80 articles, reviews and books.
Rob Langston, author of For the Children: Redefining Success in School and Success in Life will open the afternoon session at the conference.
Mr. Langston has developed a five step process to overcome his personal struggle with dyslexia and has been using and sharing the Action Initiative technique for more than twenty years. As chairman and CEO of For the Children Foundation, he has presented his powerful and inspirational message to more than 450,000 people throughout the United States.
The annual conference offers additional valuable information and resources for attendees. Sessions will cover psychiatric medications, conflict resolution, vocabulary development, technology and feature a panel discussion of young adults with dyslexia.
