S chool zone safety and McGinnis Ferry upgrades

Lawrenceville, Ga., (April 15, 2008) – Left and right turn lanes will soon be built on State Route 124 to serve the new Puckett’s Mill Elementary School and relieve traffic congestion in the school zone. Gwinnett County commissioners on Tuesday awarded a contract of almost $750,000 to the lowest of 11 bidders, G. P.’s Enterprises, Inc. The project scope also includes sidewalks, alignment and paving on South Puckett’s Mill Road.

The Board also approved a contract with the state DOT to begin acquiring right-of-way for improvements on both ends of McGinnis Ferry Road. A new bridge will replace the existing structure over the Chattahoochee River and the road will be extended from Satellite Boulevard across I-85 to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. Gwinnett DOT Director Brian Allen said the contracts “establish land acquisition parameters for these federal aid projects to make sure we follow the proper processes.”

The 2005 SPLOST program is funding both projects along with many similar school safety and transportation improvements.
