Greymates 2008 Calendar On Sale Now
Atlanta Women Bare It All for
Greyhound Rescue

Atlanta, GA (October 4, 2007) — Using inspiration from the 2003 movie Calendar Girls, 12 Southern women decided to bare it all for their four-legged friends in the 2008 Greymates Calendar. All proceeds from the calendar go to Southeastern Greyhound Adoption (SEGA), one of the country’s largest volunteer rescue organizations whose mission is to find homes for former racing greyhounds.

The women, who are pictured with their dogs, range in age from 31 to 65 and are all SEGA volunteers. They’ve all had a role in helping the organization place more than 1500 dogs into “forever homes” during the organization’s 15-year history. It costs more than $475 to place each former racing greyhound into a home. Last year, SEGA placed more than 150 dogs, which required an investment of more than $50,000 annually. The group’s funds are generated through multiple fundraisers, private donations and gifts.

“This calendar was a crazy idea that someone proposed to me one day. I thought, ‘It worked in the movie. Why couldn’t it work for us?’ I wasn’t sure I could convince 11 other women to join me in the buff. But after a few phone calls, I realized how many other women in our organization are incredibly passionate about greyhound rescue,” explains Patti Peterson, who organized the effort and championed it within the group.

“The experience was both hard work and a lot of fun. From our photographer and make-up artist to our designer and printer, everyone has embraced this project from the start.”

The organization hopes the Greymates 2008 Calendar be the largest fundraiser of the year. The money generated from the sales of calendar will primarily go toward kennel and veterinary fees for the dogs taken in from the various greyhound racetracks for placement into permanent homes.

Priced at $20, plus shipping and handling, the calendars will go on sale October 6 at www.greymates.org . Contributions are always encouraged and accepted by contacting Southeastern Greyhound Adoption at www.greyhoundadoption.org .
