Fall in Love with a Turtle!
“I know the children enjoyed the program because of the smiles written all over their faces.”
- Tonya Carter, Lancaster County Community Library

ATLANTA, (January 9, 2007) – Explore the gorgeous islands of the Galapagos Archipelago as the Center for Puppetry Arts presents Galapagos George, The Little Tortoise That Could by Barefoot Puppet Theatre from Richmond, Virginia. Based on a true story, this ecologically-minded, award-winning tale is presented as part of our 2006–07 FAMILY SERIES Wednesday through Sunday, April 11 – 29, 2007.

George was one of the last tortoises to be found on Pinta Island in the Galapagos archipelago, where his species was thought to be extinct. As George beats the odds in a paradise populated by sea lions, lizards and blue-footed birdies, you’ll marvel at the life of the world’s largest and longest-living tortoise. Solo puppeteer Heidi Rugg takes audiences across the Pacific in this show that’s as gentle, sweet and funny as George himself.

Sixteen rod puppets and a growing tortoise cavort on an island stage while the audience sees George’s story unfold. Galapagos George, The Little Tortoise That Could features the incredible music of composer Eric Weinberg, who blends music styles as varied as the wildlife of this magical fable. This show is an excellent vehicle for learning about man’s impact on the environment.

Galapagos George, The Little Tortoise That Could will be presented in the Downstairs Theater and is for audiences of all ages. Show times are as follows:  April 11 – 29, 2007: Wed-Fri. @ 10am & 11:30am; Sat. @ 11am, 1pm & 3pm; Sun. @ 1pm & 3pm.
