The Todd Franklin Cardiac Research Laboratory of the Emory University Department of Pediatrics and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Sibley Heart Center adds new position in Pediatric Cardiac research
YangGan Wang, M.D., Ph.D., joins as assistant professor (tenure track) at One of the Leading Pediatric Cardiac Programs in the Country

ATLANTA (August 23, 2007) – Emory University's Department of Pediatrics and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Sibley Heart Center are pleased to announce the addition of YangGan Wang, M.D., Ph.D., to the pediatric cardiac research team. Beginning in July 2007, Dr. Wang assumed the newly created position of Director of heart failure research in the Emory University Department of Pediatrics. In this position he will be responsible for establishing a state of the art laboratory in the area of cardiac cell biology and heart failure to further develop his research theme, teaching cardiology fellows and participation in graduate programs in the Emory University School of Medicine and the graduate division of biological and biomedical science.

   “The Todd Franklin Cardiac Research Laboratory continues to expand to meet the needs of Georgia’s children and to stay on the cutting edge of cardiac research,” said Ronald Joyner, M.D., Ph.D., FAHA, Director of the Todd Franklin Cardiac Research Laboratory of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Sibley Heart Center and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics. “The addition of Dr. Wang will further enable Children’s and Emory to remain a national leader in pediatric cardiac research and continue to deliver outstanding care to our pediatric heart patients.”

   Dr. Wang’s research interests include studies on the regulation and function of cardiac membrane ion channels, molecular mechanisms underlying the development of cardiac hypertrophy and failure, and disease-related arrhythmias.

   Dr. Wang obtained his M.D. in medicine and Ph.D. in cardiac electrophysiology in Tongji Medical University, one of the most prestigious Universities in China. 

   Dr. Wang has authored and co-authored over 24 peer-reviewed publications and presented at over 20 national and international conferences. He has been serving as reviewer for several prestigious journals in the field of Cardiology and Physiology, including Circulation, Hypertension, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, etc.
