Georgia Strawberries Are Ready for Picking

ATLANTA, GA (April 17, 2007) - Some Georgia strawberry growers are reporting that they have beautiful berries ready for picking but are short on customers because people think the crop was frozen, Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin reported today.

“We have gotten numerous calls from growers commenting on a shortage of customers but no shortage of berries,” said Commissioner Irvin.

“Today is a beautiful day to go out and pick some strawberries or to stop at a farm and purchase a pint or two. Call your local growers or county Extension office to find out about the availability and state of the crop in your area. A list of some Georgia pick-your-own strawberry farms can be found on the internet at: agr.georgia.gov/vgn/images/portal/cit_1210/8/9/77780259PYO%20Strawberry
