Tensions Sizzle in Capitol City Opera’s Production of “A Streetcar Named Desire
ATLANTA, GA (September 12, 2006) - It is the tragic tale of an aging Southern Belle living in a perpetual state of panic about her fading lifestyle, a damaged woman who’s constructed fantasy life cannot overcome reality. It is a harsh tale of sex and death and brutal violence. This is Blanche’s world in A Streetcar Named Desire brought to life by Tennessee Williams, set to the compelling music of Andre Previn and performed by a cast who make the tensions of this drama sizzle.
Capitol City Opera Company is pleased to announce the southeastern premiere of the opera, A Streetcar Named Desire. “This is a huge show for the opera company and a major event for Atlanta”, states Eric Smithey, music director. The show opens September 15th and runs through September 17th. The Saturday evening show also offers the Jambalaya Jam, an authentic Cajun dinner catered by McKinnon’s Louisiane. It is the perfect compliment to a show set in New Orleans and makes the evening easy and delicious.
The performances are held at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University. The Friday and Saturday shows start at 8pm. The Sunday performance is a 3pm matinee. Tickets are $20-$25 each and the Jambalaya Jam package is $65 per person. Tickets for the shows and dinner are available at
