Talk of the Town makes dreams come true

Gwinnett Magazine lists Music on Main as one of 101 Things Not to Miss in Gwinnett County. With the thousands of attractions and events across the county, this distinction alone should be enough to motivate everyone to come on out on September 9. But there’s more to it than just a good time.

Music on Main benefits the Dream House for Medically fragile Children in Lilburn. Founded by Laura Moore, a pediatrics nurse, The Dream House helps dreams come true for children who barely have a life.

There are thousands of children in Georgia dependent on life-supporting medications and treatments. Many spend months, even years, in hospitals and adult nursing homes because their families are either unwilling or incapable of caring for them. For many, their only human contact is having a nurse comes in to give them a shot or a pill. And the care for some of these children can cost taxpayers up to $5000 a day.

All these children dream of is having a childhood, which is the mission of the Dream House. By educating loving families on how to care for these children, the Dream House helps transition them into foster or adoptive homes, providing them the opportunity to live, laugh and play like other children. And in loving stable homes, these kids receive better quality care at about one-tenth of the cost.

Dozens of businesses, corporations and private sponsors have joined together to put on the biggest show yet to support the Dream House. Everyone from housewives to high-tech professionals, beauty queens to businessmen, Lilburn Business Association members to Parkview ROTC Cadets will have spend months pulling together the community for this dream of an event.

The evening begins with a silent auction with such plum prizes as a five night/six day stay for two at the Coco Resort in St. Lucia and a Sports Illustrated autographed by Jeff Francoeur. Car lovers can stroll through the antique auto show and vote on their favorite car. Guests will feast on a dinner catered by Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Q, with extra fixins’ from Sycamore Grill, Blue Rooster, Crystal Springs Water and the Lilburn Publix and Chick-Fil-A.

And then for the entertainment! Opening acts include Brian Wiley, winner of the Lilburn Idol contest and Georgia State Representative Brooks Coleman, who will take center stage leading a live auction. (In case you’ve never seen Rep. Coleman in action, I assure you, he IS entertainment!) The gentlemen up next, who have played backup for the Drifters and Platters are the Talk of the Town. Yes, that’s their name. But how appropriate that we will hear their music at an event that IS the talk of the town!

Music on Main, September 9, 5:00 -10:00 PM, Tickets, $25 each. Info: www.music-on-main-org or 770-717-7410
