A mini-tramp, a ballet barre and a little red wagon
Student dance concert Nov. 3-4 showcases choreographers
GAINESVILLE, GA (October 25, 3006) – The Brenau University dance program’s autumn student concert of eccentric, witty and beautiful dances is a showcase for choreographers participating in The Women’s College dance composition II class. This year’s “Evening of Dance” takes place Nov. 3-4 at 8 p.m. in Pearce Auditorium, 200 Washington St. Tickets are available at the door for $5 general admission; $3 for students and senior citizens; Brenau faculty, staff and students admitted free with ID.
Original dances developed with a mini-trampoline, a portable ballet barre or a little red wagon are examples of the assignments student choreographers must face. Each choreographer has the challenge of developing a dance based on movement with an object. Course instructor Vincas Greene hopes “the students will challenge themselves to discover new movement they would never thought themselves capable of doing before the assignment.”
Along with the object pieces, students will present group dances to illustrate ideas developed from music selections. An excerpt from the romantic ballet “Coppelia” staged by Natalie Berry and a new work by adjunct faculty member Susan Wiesner are included in the concert.
The student choreographers are Sarah Gould from Snellville, Katie Hutsenpiller from Austell, Tiffany Jarczyk from Loganville, Shardai Murray from Macon, Kayte Porter from Buford, Emily Rowland from Sugar Hill, and Mallory Young from Austell.
