Lots of Fun in the Summertime
After seven years of writing this column, I find that I’m starting to repeat myself. And I hope you don’t mind if I spend the next 475 words sharing some of the neat things I plan to do with my granddaughters, KayLynne and Brittany, just like I did last summer. The month of June alone will fill this whole space and everything is free.
At least once we’ll pack a picnic dinner and enjoy one of the First Friday Smooth Jazz 107.5 concerts in Suwanee Town Park.

The Lilburn Idol Contest and Family Movie Nights will be held on June 2, 16 and 30 in Lilburn Park. Local singers will compete for the title and as the girls discovered last year, you don’t have to be a Lilburn resident to win. The girls said they wanted to enter, and if they do, I’ll be sure to write about their behind the scenes experience.

On either June 3 and 23, we can enjoy live music under the stars at the Moonlight and Music Concert at the Courthouse in Lawrenceville.

Since I’m really into low budget meals, I think we’ll take a break from whatever we’re doing on June 9 and go to the Brown Bag Noontime Concert at the Courthouse.

The Mall of Georgia will be hosting a Summer Saturday Concert Series on Jun 3, 10, and 17. And maybe the thought of shopping there will motivate the girls to earn some spending money by sweeping cobwebs and cat hair out of my house.

Duluth will sponsor a live concert in their amphitheatre on June 10 and a movie under the stars on the Town Green on June 24.

Since I got my granddaughters hooked on thrift store shopping – I received dozens of compliments on the Easter outfit they picked out for me at a consignment shop in Winder – I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun at the Lilburn City Garage Sale and the Rhodes Jordan Family Festival and Garage Sale, both on June 3.
June 24 is the date for the 7th Annual Up the Creek Fish Camp and Grill’s Children’s Fishing Derby at T.W. Briscoe Park

There are lots of fun activities scheduled for readers of all ages at the library
(

) including story time for their little sister Brooke, who will be two years old on June 9.
And, since my column runs in the Taste and Travel section, I think we’ll spend a little money and do some tasting and traveling like we did last summer. If there’s anyplace you’d like us to check out for you, let me know. We’ll be glad to travel there. You’ll just have to trust our taste.
