Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta and Atlanta College of Art Launch 30th Annual Georgia High School Drawing Competition

ATLANTA (Mar. 23) – Georgia students are invited to participate in the 30th annual Georgia High School Drawing Competition. This year the competition is co-sponsored by the Savannah College of Art and Design and the Atlanta College of Art and will honor not only the talented visual art students in our state, but also the art educators who skillfully guide them toward success.

As the SCAD and the Atlanta College of Art prepare to merge in the summer of 2006, the joint sponsorship of this prestigious competition ensures that the most talented Georgia students will continue to benefit from the opportunity to vie for statewide recognition and scholarships to pursue an education at SCAD.

Georgia high school art educators are invited to submit art work from their students to be judged by a panel of professors and alumni from ACA and SCAD. Selected work will be featured in a juried exhibition and awards ceremony at SCAD-Atlanta in Midtown.

Ten winners selected by the jury will be awarded scholarships to SCAD, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 per year, upon acceptance to the college. Scholarships are renewed annually until completion of a bachelor’s degree (180 quarter hours), as long as the recipient is enrolled and maintains a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. Two scholarship options are offered, depending on the student’s choice of college housing or non-college housing. Scholarships are applicable for students accepted to SCAD-Atlanta, SCAD-Savannah or SCAD e-Learning.

     Entry deadline: March 30

     Exhibition: April 26–28

     Awards ceremony: April 30

In the initial round of the competition, a panel of jurors, comprised of SCAD and ACA faculty, will select the most promising works to be presented in a juried exhibition that will be on display April 26 - 28, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at SCAD-Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree St., in Midtown. Scholarship awards will be presented to students whose works are judged as being one of the “top ten” entries in the competition. Jurors for the competition include: SCAD faculty members Dale Clifford and Tom Fischer and ACA faculty Tom Francis and Katherine Taylor.

Parents, families, teachers and friends are invited to salute the award-winning students at the 30th Annual Georgia High School Drawing Competition Award Ceremony on Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m. at SCAD-Atlanta.
