Competes in the Youth America Grand Prix
ATLANTA (March 1) - The Northeast Atlanta Ballet under the Artistic Direction of Jennifer Byokawski-Gordon will be sending 11 Senior and Senior Apprentice Company members to compete in the Youth America Grand Prix semi- finals on March 11th and 12th in Greenville, South Carolina. Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) is the only international student ballet competition in America, which awards scholarships to the leading dance schools in the U.S. and abroad. The finals competition is held annually in New York City. YAGP was created to provide extraordinary educational and professional opportunities for young student dancers, acting as a stepping-stone to a professional dance career.
The Northeast Atlanta Ballet will be entering two ensemble pieces, one choreographed especially for the Northeast Atlanta Ballet at a special workshop weekend by internationally known choreographer and dancer Giuseppe Canale entitled, Traveling. Mr. Canale became the Co-Director of The Northeast Academy of Dance in Michigan and has appeared as a judge at the Luxembourg International Ballet Competition. The second ensemble piece to be performed is entitled, Vulnerable for Attack choreographed by student chorographer Nicole Reath. Seven company soloists performing classical variations will also represent the Northeast Atlanta Ballet.
