Another Dynamite Husband / Wife Coaching Team for the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club

Gainesville, GA (February 22, 2006) – Another Dynamite Husband and Wife Coaching Team for the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club! The Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club has hired husband and wife team Dave and Devri Robertson from Regina, Saskatchewan to lead the Olympic Legacy Paddling programs at the Lanier ’96 Olympic Venue.

Dave and Devri met and grew up at the Wascana Kayak Club in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. They played a large part in developing a very successful program at Wascana. Dave is a Level 3 Certified Sprint Canoe Kayak Coach in Canada. He started coaching in 1996 and has experience coaching at the club, provincial, national and international levels in Canada. Most recently, Dave placed 4 Junior women on the Canadian 2005 Junior World Championships team. All four of his athletes qualified for the A Finals and finished in the top 8 in Szeged, Hungary. His coaching skills produced the best performances in history for both Team Saskatchewan Canoe-Kayak at the 2005 Canada Summer Games and for Wascana Canoe Club at the 2005 Canadian Canoe Association Sprint Championships.

Both Dave and Devri have strong competitive paddling experience in canoe as well as kayak and we look forward to enhancing that component of our program. Devri managed crew training and coach recruitment for 80 Dragon Boat Crews at the 2005 Regina Dragon Boat Festival. We look forward to developing a thriving Dragon Boat program through her leadership. Devri also has strengths in administration and equipment management.

We are looking forward even better programs and events under their leadership!

Many thanks to Jim O’Dell who has been coaching the team during the transition period, and Guy and Shelley Wilding for continuing to write training programs and provide inspiration for the team.
