Final Days for Chocolate: The Exhibition at Fernbank Museum

ATLANTA (August 2, 2006) - Fernbank Museum of Natural History announces the final days of Chocolate: The Exhibition, now on view through August 13, 2006. To sweeten the experience during these final days, Fernbank is offering a free piece of chocolate with each Museum ticket.

Chocolate takes visitors on a mouthwatering exploration of the plant, products, history and culture of chocolate. Museum patrons will see ancient pottery created for the consumption of the oldest chocolate recipes, discover relics from the first chocolate consumer products, watch footage of how chocolate is made, and test their chocolate IQ through hands-on stations. The exhibition takes visitors on a comprehensive journey to learn about the cacao tree’s natural rainforest habitat and chocolate’s evolution from a bitter drink created by the ancient Maya to a sweet treat that today is adored by cultures around the world. The exhibition is presented in English and Spanish. Chocolate: The Exhibition is included with Museum admission.

The final Chocolate Sunday event, a programming series featuring chocolate samples from Whole Foods Market, Mayfield Dairy Farms, Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland, Panera Bread, The Melting Pot, Chocolate Pink Pastry Café and Godiva, as well as authentic Oaxacan dance performances by Grupo Regional Oaxaqueno de Atlanta, will be held Sunday, August 2 from noon to 3 p.m. Chocolate Sunday samples are free with Museum admission and are available while supplies last.

Museum admission is $12 for adults, $11 for students/seniors, $10 for children ages 12-2, free for children 2 and under, and free for Fernbank Museum members. Parking is free at Fernbank. Advance tickets are available by calling 404.929.6400. For more information, visit www.fernbankmuseum.org
