Gwinnett Sexual Assault Center & Children’s Advocacy Center (GSAC-CAC)
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Recruitment
“Information Evening & Open House”

DULUTH, GA (Apr. 4) - April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month and no where is that more apparent than Gwinnett Sexual Assault Center & Children’s Advocacy Center (GSAC-CAC).

This safe and friendly facility located in historic Duluth embarks upon its 21st year in service to Gwinnett County and has reached over 70,000 individuals with direct services and programs for child and adult victims of sexual assault and abuse. The hallmark of success for GSAC-CAC as a non-profit 501 (c )(3) organization it’s participation in the successful orchestration and coordination of the Gwinnett County community SART or sexual assault response team. This concept of a multidisciplinary team approach clearly defines the roles and services of each professional discipline that has an impact on meeting the needs of sexual assault/ child sexual abuse survivors. This team response includes law enforcement, GSAC-CAC professionals, protective services, and input from the district attorney’s office: all dedicated to ensure comprehensive, compassionate and high-quality services are provided. No GSAC-CAC program is more noteworthy than its national model of on-site forensic-medical services. It is no longer necessary for child or adult victims to wait for long periods in overloaded hospital emergency department. This is the very crucial medical-legal examination of a sexual assault/ abuse victim and the collection of biological and other evidence obtained in the course of that examination. Exams are completed at GSAC-CAC by a specially trained sexual assault nurse examiner known as a SANE, while the victim’s emotional and psychological needs are supported by specially trained professional advocates. This hallmark service of GSAC-CAC is an important component as it meets the physical and medical considerations of the individual while providing an objective and independent assessment and documentation of injury and potential evidence.

To meet an increasing number of forensic exams needed, GSAC-CAC is hosting a “Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner’s Information Program and Open House” Thursday, April 27, 2006, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The evening is offered in the hopes of recruiting more professional registered nurse applicants interested in learning more about the role of a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) at GSAC-CAC. General information about GSAC-CAC services, SANE training and services, guest speakers, and refreshments will be offered. April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and GSAC-CAC is most aware they are in need of more extraordinary nurses to meet a very special need! If you are interested in attending please contact Amy Hutsell, Client Services Coordinator, at 770-497-9122 ext. 301 or by email at ahutsell@gsac-cac.org.
