3rd Annual Caboose Day April 2nd

DULUTH, GA (Jan. 26) - The Southeastern Railway Museum is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Caboose Day April 2nd from 10am - 4pm celebrating the end of the train and the folks that lived and worked there.

   Activities include track speeder rides, music, special speakers and food. Guided tours through cabooses will be available as will a caboose set up for kids to have a snack. There will be a craft corner for kids to create a sovenier to take home as well. 

   There will be a ceremony in the afternoon where the museum will dedicate it's "Wall of Honor" to all of the men and women who built, operated, and maintained all of the transportation systems that have made this country prosper and those who have helped preserve the history of transportation. 

  Through March 26 the museum is open for general admission ONLY on Saturdays, 10am - 5pm Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+), $4 for children (2-12). Children under 2 are admitted free. Effective March 31, 2005 the museum will expand days of operation for the summer. 

   The museum is continuing to accept reservations for Romance on the Rails the museum's inaugural Valentine's Day event. Please call the museum administration office at 770-495-0253 x3 for more information.

   The museum is also accepting sponsorship applications for inclusion in the Wall of Honor. Introductory rates through April will be $99. 

   The Southeastern Railway Museum has been in operation since 1970 and is "Georgia's Official Transportation History Museum". The museum has over 80 other pieces of retired railway rolling stock including vintage steam and diesel locomotives, passenger coaches, private business cars, a World War II army troop kitchen, wooden freight cars, railway post office car and maintenance of way equipment. Transit history is represented with a cross section of busses and trolleys from the early 1900's through the mid 1980's. The museum is also home to MARTA's historic bus fleet which includes busses from many of the predecessor systems to MARTA. Many other items from Georgia's transportation history are also presented on the museum's 30-acre site. 

   Trains rides aboard restored cabooses are complementary with admission. Train rides are only available on Saturdays through March. 

   Directions: From I-85 northbound, exit at Pleasant Hill Road. Turn left (west), pass Gwinnett Place Mall, and continue approx. 3 miles to Buford Highway (US 23). Turn right (north) on Buford Highway. Travel approx. ¼ mile to Peachtree Road, turn left, cross railroad tracks, then turn right into museum entrance.
