Meet the Artist of Hidden Wonders of the Appalachians
Gallery Exhibition Opens at Martinis & IMAX®

ATLANTA, GA (Jan. 12) - Patrons of Martinis & IMAX® will have a unique opportunity to Meet the Artist of the newest gallery exhibition at Fernbank Museum of Natural History on Friday, January 28. Guests will be able to view Hidden Wonders of the Appalachian: The Watercolors of Nancy Lowe during this special preview event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The artist, Nancy Lowe, will briefly introduce the collection and her affiliated work in the Great Smoky Mountain Park with the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI) and will be available to discuss her artwork with individuals.

In Hidden Wonders of the Appalachians, Ms. Lowe showcases a collection of works she created while documenting the flora and fauna of the Great Smoky Mountain Park ATBI, which is represented through approximately 25 works of art. Carefully rendered watercolors and large-scale scanned images highlight some of the smaller, overlooked flora and fauna of the region—such as the Hypochilus pococki (Lampshade spider), the Acalypta duryi (Lace bug) and the Ligdia, a newly discovered species of inchworm.

Lowe’s work has also been exhibited at the National Botanic Garden of Belgium, Highgate Gallery in London and many venues throughout the United States. While on exhibit at Fernbank Museum, Ms. Lowe’s work will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will benefit Discover Life in America, the organization which supports the Smoky Mountains ATBI. Her collection will be on view at Fernbank Museum of Natural History January 29 through July 4, 2005.

A cash bar will be available in conjunction with Martinis &IMAX®. There is no ticket charge for guests attending the Meet the Artist event between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. After 6:30 p.m., standard Martinis & IMAX® ticketing rates apply. For those who wish to attend a film, IMAX® tickets are $10. After 6:30 p.m., there is a $5 cover charge to enjoy the live band and atmosphere of Martinis & IMAX® without purchasing a film ticket. However, Museum members and patrons who purchase an IMAX® ticket do not pay the cover charge at any time during the evening.

To purchase tickets in advance, call 404.929.6400. For more information, including menus, film descriptions, show times, directions and more, visit www.fernbank.edu/museum.
