Over Coffee

This has been one of the busiest and most interesting of Holiday Seasons I can remember. It is all about time after all. Sometimes time actually slows down, you know. That must have been what happened because I got most of what I needed to accomplish finished and in good time so I could have a good time. It was also the first time I was under no pressure whatsoever. At my age, that was delightful. I hope you all enjoyed the giving of Christmas and the Festival of Lights of Chanukkah and the life goals of Kwanzaa. How alike we all really are! It is time we realized and acknowledged that!

Getting back to basics can be very rewarding. That’s what the Courtyards by Marriott are finding with their fabulous new bedding. After a very long and arduous journey by car to spend Christmas with our elderlies, my husband and I were pleasantly surprised to see that our usual Courtyard had upgraded the beds. It was lovely to snuggle into a duvet covered-pillowtop mattress-bed with five pillows. This Courtyard also has windows that open so we slept with delicious icy country fresh air pouring over us, just like folks used to do. We slept like fallen logs all the nights that we were there. In fact, my husband loved the duvet so much that when we got home he went to www.marriott.com   and ordered one just like it.

We’d like to send kudos to the Kentucky State Police for taking very swift action in getting a seriously impaired driver off the Interstate. My husband punched 911 on his cell when we observed a car in front of us weaving in quite an alarming fashion. My husband was patched through to the state police dispatcher who stayed on the phone with us until the troopers were able to locate us (it was dark) and pull the guy over before he killed somebody. It was a nerve-wracking few minutes before the first trooper showed up, too; we watched this guy miss an overpass abutment by what looked like inches. I was never so happy to see those blue lights in all of my life. Thank you, Kentucky. Lives were saved that night.

My computer has been acting up again. Mind you, it and I only have a grudging relationship anyway, but now that thin thread is just about snapped. Machines are supposed to work and if they don’t, what good are they anyway? Do we really need them? I have racked up HOURS twiddling my thumbs waiting for my computer to finish a task, or boot itself, or whatever. I am past caring. The next time it gets itself stuck and won’t even turn off, it’s into the closet and shut the door and that’s it! You would think that these computers could work better than they do; actually, the first one I had worked pretty well. The next one was not quite so good as that one, and this NEW ONE is purely a piece of pucky. They are probably laughing so hard in China. I think I know where my typewriter is.

I am looking forward to 2006. There is much to do and I’m anxious to get it done! May each day be a productive one, productive in terms of people, places, and ideas. If we can dream it, we can do it.

Hope all is well and thanks for reading. Happy New Year!
