DeKalb Commissioner Hank Johnson to Formally Announce Campaign For Congress Against Cynthia McKinney

Decatur, GA (December 15, 2005) — On Tuesday, December 20th, DeKalb County Commissioner Henry “Hank” Johnson Jr. will officially announce his campaign for Congress in Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District, which includes most of three metro counties – DeKalb, Rockdale and portions of South Gwinnett. 

  Johnson will face incumbent Cynthia McKinney in the July 18 Democratic primary. 

   “As a Commissioner, I know the importance of highly effective Congressional representation. Resources are scarce and the stakes are high,” said Johnson. “I am a consensus-builder. I enjoy bringing people together to meet serious challenges. I’m looking forward to meeting voters in every part of the 4th Congressional District, to a vigorous campaign and the opportunity to serve in the 110th Congress.”

   The Hank For Congress Campaign will be announced at two separate events in DeKalb and Rockdale Counties on Tuesday, December 20, 2005:

1. THE DEKALB EVENT - 11:00 AM

2. THE ROCKDALE EVENT - 12:15 PM

   Johnson, who is currently in his second term as a County Commissioner, represents DeKalb County’s Fifth Commission district, which includes the southern and eastern parts of the county bordering Rockdale, Henry and Fulton.

   An attorney, Johnson has practiced criminal and civil law in Decatur for 25 years. A partner with Johnson & Johnson Law Group LLC, he is a previous Associate Judge of the Magistrate Court for DeKalb County.

   A graduate of Clark College (Clark Atlanta University) and Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Johnson is married to Attorney Mereda Davis Johnson. They have two children, Randi and Alex.
