Madrigal Dinner at the Windsor Hotel

Americus, Ga. (Oct. 12) - The lobby of the historic 1892 Windsor Hotel will be transformed into a 16th century castle as the Georgia Southwestern State University Chamber Singers and the staff of the Windsor Hotel present the 16th Madrigal Dinner on Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13, 2004. The Windsor lobby will be set as a dining hall in a medieval castle with seating limited to 100 people per evening who will dine on succulent pork loin stuffed with apples, nuts & raisins while being serenaded by the Georgia Southwestern State University Chamber Singers.

Performers and hotel staff members will be dressed in authentic medieval period costumes of 16th century Elizabethan England when madrigal was a favorite form of entertainment. Madrigal which originated in 14th century Italy was a form of vocal chamber music or folk music that came into vogue in England during Shakespeare’s time.

Julie Megginson, Director of Choral/Vocal Activities at GSW will lead the singers as they perform a cappella 16th century madrigals. Entertainment will also be provided by the Sumter Players Jesters. Dutch Treat cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. both evenings with dinner and entertainment at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the stuffed pork, the menu will include a wassail bowl, crusty bread and assorted cheeses and fruits, cream of squash soup, roast chicken with cranberry relish, vegetables, and baked custard with walnut topping for dessert. A glass of wine and a cup of wassail are included. Price for the evening is $32.95 per person including tax and gratuity.

Tickets are available while they last by calling: Angelia at the Windsor Hotel (229) 924-1555 - Extension 136.

This year the Windsor Hotel will be giving a free night stay for the best renaissance costume.

The Windsor Hotel was established in 1892 as a destination for northern hunters and vacationers escaping the cold winters. Today, the Windsor has 53 rooms and occupies an entire city block. The castle-like Victorian structure is one of the main attractions to thousands of visitors that come to southwest Georgia every year. The Windsor is not only a hotel but also a landmark of the olden times. For more information visit www.windsor-americus.com
