Dobbins
Air Base to Receive Needed Funding Under
House-Passed Bill
WASHINGTON
D.C. -
June 27 - Dobbins Air Reserve Base and the Atlanta
Naval Air Station would receive needed funding for
several important areas under two pieces of
legislation passed today by the House of
Representatives, U.S. Rep. Bob Barr (GA-7) announced
today. This evening the House approved a $10
billion Military Construction appropriations bill,
which contained important funding to begin
construction of a new base visitors center at
Dobbins, as well as $6.7 million to improve enlisted
quarters at the Atlanta Naval Air Station.
Barr
requested this funding in a April 2nd
letter to Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman David
Hobson, stating, "The 94th Airlift Wing is the
host organization at Dobbins Air Force Reserve Base
and is responsible for providing security, civil
engineering, fire protection and certain other
services to various tenant organizations assigned to
the base.... Over the last several months, Dobbins'
Air Force Reserve Base's Mission has increased and
has put a strain on the existing facilities because
of its enhanced role in the wake of the Terrorism
Attack on September 11, 2001."
This
was the second big victory for Dobbins today,
following House passage of the annual Defense
Appropriations bill, which included, among other
things, $5
million for a flight-training device (FTD) for the
94th Airlift Wing. Barr requested this funding
be included in the bill in a letter to Defense
Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Jerry Lewis.
In addition to Barr, fellow Georgia Reps. Isakson,
Chambliss, Deal, Kingston, Collins, and Norwood also
signed the letter.
Barr represents
Georgia's Seventh District. He serves on the
House Financial Services, Judiciary, and Government
Reform Committees.
